Below is the text of the original announcement:

Metadata Applications and Standards: A Cataloging for the 21st Century Workshop

This two-day workshop, organized by SCTPG and co-sponsored by NASIG and CLA-ACTSS, presents bibliographic control concepts, including specific metadata standards and applications. The goal of the workshop is to relate what library staff already know about library catalog metadata to digital library metadata, thereby preparing staff to apply their current knowledge to new areas. This instruction in bibliographic control practices will help them continue to play a significant role in shaping library services in the emerging digital information environment.

Instructors:
Mary Woodley, Collection Development Coordinator, CSUN
Luiz Mendes, Electronic Resources Librarian, CSUN

Dates:
Thursday and Friday, May 10th and 11th, 2007

Welcome to the SCTPG blog!

Dear ERM Program Participants!

Welcome to the new SCTPG blog. This blog was created thanks to those of you who expressed interest in continuing the discussion of the ERM issues that were addressed during the program, and with the hopes of fostering the conversation about the topics left outside the program’s scope.

The program clearly demonstrated that there are ERM challenges shared by every library and we need a forum to ask the questions, exchange ideas and share experiences.

I hope our conversation will go beyond the initial topic of ERM and we will transform this endeavor into the SCTPG online community where we can share opinions about past programs, suggest topics for the new ones and resolve current Technical Services’ issues.

I invite you to contribute generously to the discussion.

Thank you,

Helen Heinrich
